How to Help Your Chiropractor Help You
Cooperation is a must if best results are to be obtained. This means that regularity in receiving adjustments must be strictly observed. It means that the doctor's office rules are for a definite purpose and must be followed implicitly. It means that special instructions are given in all seriousness and that each patient is expected to follow the chiropractor's advice to the very best of his or her ability. In other words, "If it is worth doing, it is worth doing right!"
The most normal and natural position for an adult to assume during sleep is on his back or side. The most abnormal position is on the stomach, with the head turned to one side. This causes severe imbalance in muscle tone, particularly in the neck region. Since the neck is structurally the weakest part of the body, sleeping on the stomach insidiously produces a loss of integrity in this area. If you awaken and are on your stomach, gently roll over on your back and rest there for at least ten minutes before getting up. This will generally relieve any tension that developed from sleeping in the wrong position.
There is a direct relationship between a persons' fluid balance and his well-being. How much water a person drinks each day determines to a great extent that person's health. A good method is to drink half a cup of water every thirty minutes during the day, then half a cup at bedtime, and half a cup when you get up in the morning. The importance of this admonition cannot be over emphasized.
This applies to all aspects of your life. Eat a varied well-balanced, nutritious diet. Avoid, as much as possible, such items as tobacco, beer, alcohol and other drugs. Limit carbonated drinks (especially colas), teas, coffee, salt, pork, and white flour products. Practice both external and internal cleanliness. Exercise daily; stretch, bend, twist, and walk. Be aware of your posture and constantly try to improve it. If possible take a nap or rest during the day. Look at the positive side of life rather than the negative. Associate with healthy, happy, and creative people. |
